The recent development and spread of the optical fiber technology has allowed the utilization of the high performance telecommunication components to create very high performance sensors able to monitor many parameters even simultaneously. The company Optosmart basically uses two types of optical sensors, Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) and refractometric sensors, that theorycal features are decrypted in the theory section. The optical fiber sensors have many advantages, like electromagnetic interferences immunity, quick response time, amenable to multiplexing, corrosion resistance, small dimensions and lightness and therefore they can be used in adverse environmental conditions, are able to monitor many parameters at the same time, whereby they are last interfering.
